Workshop organized by the Training Administration in Al Buraimi University College

The workshop was opened with a welcoming address from the dean of the college in which he welcomed the attendance and the guests and thanked them for accepting the invitation.

The workshop included four sessions in each of which two papers were presented. In the first session, Dr. Rasool Al Jaberi from the Ministry of Economy presented his paper “The Effects of the International Financial Crisis on the Gulf Higher Education Institutions”. The second paper came under the title “The International Financial Crisis : Causes, Consequences, and Solution” and it was presented by Dr. Salah AbdulRahman from Oman College for Management and Technology.

In the third session another two papers were presented. The first was on “The Causes of the International Financial Crisis and its Effects on the Funding Sources at Private Universities in Oman” and it was presented by Dr Kamal Al Naqeeb from Sohar College of Applied Sciences. The other paper was on “ Rightsizing the workforce in a Financial Crisis. “ by Dr Reynaldo.

Each of three sessions was followed by a question-and-answer session about the papers presented in the session.

The last session was devoted to a general discussion and the recommendations.

Among the most important of these recommendations were (a) admitting the existence of the crisis and the possible future effects it may have on the economies and the higher education institution in the gulf region , (b) giving priority to higher education in Gulf states and (c) encouraging the search for other funding sources especially self financing.
