Health and Safety

BUC is committed to maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all students, staff and visitors. Employees, students and visitors must comply with the responsibility to protect and promote the safety and health of themselves and others, and to conduct their activities in a manner designed to prevent accidents and minimize the risk of injury and harm. BUC Health and Safety Management System aims to establish a health and safety culture and practices framework within the institution’s premises. The “BUC Health and Safety Committee (HSC)” is the responsible committee for issuing safety and health procedures and protocols. Consistent measurement of safety incidents shall be provided, to improve performance.

Objectives:

  1. Promote health and safety culture in BUC’s operations.
  2. Guarantee all BUC staff and students are well informed of health and safety procedures and protocols and can perform their duties safely.
  3. Prevent accidents and minimize injuries and illnesses by identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  4. Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and regulations.
  5. Endorse mutual responsibility for health and safety among BUC community members.
  6. Protect the environment through effective waste management.

Responsibilities of Stakeholders:

  • Responsibilities of the BUC Health and Safety Committee (HSC):

HSChas the primary responsibility to maintain a healthy and safe work environment within their area of responsibility, by monitoring and exercising control over their staff. The committee has the responsibility to develop and implement health and safety procedures and training, to bring to leadership’s attention any hazards that require the college-wide evaluation and response, and to evaluate the statistics of injuries and incidents to suggest methods by which procedures might be improved..

  • Responsibilities of Supervisors:

Supervisors with direct oversight of college activities and personnel have a specific responsibility to provide for the health and safety of those supervised. They must remain thoroughly informed of health and safety rules and how they specifically apply to their areas of responsibility. Supervisors also have a direct responsibility to ensure that required safety and health equipment is provided, maintained, and properly used.

  • Responsibilities of Employees and Students:

Employees and students have a specific responsibility to comply with established health and safety, standards, procedures and laws, to become familiar with potential hazards associated with their work, and to properly wear protective equipment and report all unsafe conditions, practices and equipment.
